Abstract:
Excitation system of the synchronous generators is very essential for generator to induce voltage, the DC excitation system that used in Sennar hydro power station now a days disappear, because its large , has many components, no spar part , has low response and always the units trip due to excitation system failure because the system is very old (more than 55 years) . static excitation system is more modern and has many advantages , hence designing and modeling new static excitation system for generation units in Sennar hydro power station is more powerful. the suggested excitation system (static excitation system) hasmore stability, efficiency , reliability and highly response also the new system achieve easy economic maintenance and decreasing the number of the unit trips and duration of shutting down of the units using only one thyristors panel with the excitation transformer .
The Supply of excitation transformer is taken from the main leads of the generator . the suitable excitation transformer and convertor control panel with AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator ) are determined , also the excitation flashing system for the machine start up and excitation protection system are specified which the old excitation system was haven’t
the new system is simulated by PROTEUS software and gave a good result.
