Abstract:
Direct current (DC) motors have been used widely during the last century in many applications. The main reason for their popularity is the ability to control their torque and flux easily and independently. Therefore, the control of the speed of DC motor is an important issue. Over the past decades, many techniques have been developed for the DC motor speed control. The most commonly used controller for the speed control of DC motor is Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller. In spite of the major features of the PID controller, has some disadvantages such as the high starting overshoot and sensitivity to controller gains.
The above issues can be solved by using Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) technique. The efficiency of the LQR has been verified using MATLAB software. According to simulation results, LQR methods give the better performance compared to PID controller.
