Abstract:
This research investigates the problems caused by high viscosity of a crude oil
when it is used as a fuel to run steam power plants which is proposed to be used in
Kosti thermal power plant. Firstly various theories which address out of the crude
oil were examined, and both its components and applications. Secondly the
properties
of
the
fuel
and
some
theories
of
combustion
were
set.
Many experiments have been conducted on different mixtures of crude oil with
different proportions of kerosene taken as samples set to address the problems
resulting from high pouring temperature of the crude oil that result of its high
viscosity property. Kerosene is chosen because it is characterized by a low pouring
temperature just in range of (-18 to -30) ° C.
The results of the study has given a range of options for the mixing process that
depended on the ambient temperature, for example, when the mixing ratio is about
10% then crude oil pouring temperature is decreased by 8 ° C and gives an
excellent result and it is economically feasible.
