Abstract: This study aims at investigating cohesive device problems in Sudanese's EFL students Written Work at Sudan University of Science and Technology .The researcher used a descriptive , analytical method to analyze the research .The researcher used an essay for students and the validity and reliability of the essay was confirmed. The sample of the study consists of 40 students of College of Language Department of English Languages third level. The researcher Analyzed the data by using the statistical program (SPSS).The data analysis showed that there is a weakness in the student written work .The students used and overuse some of cohesive device e.g reference, conjunction and repetition while unused others for instance substitution ,synonyms and antonyms . It also noticed that the students think and prepare their ideas in their first language and then transferred into English, this make their written work tedious, redundancy and noncohesive. At the end of the study the researcher presented some recommendations concerning students instructors and syllabus designer, for instance the students should revise topic written by native speakers. The researcher suggests a topic for further research.
