Application of Value Engineering in Construction Projects in Sudan

Abstract

The value engineering is a system helps to find the suitable alternatives which could help to keeping the same level of quality and improve it with the minimum cost. This study aims to identify the concept of value engineering in terms of how to use it and apply it in engineering companies in the State of Khartoum. Data was collected from a group of construction companies , a group of engineers and managers site within the state of Khartoum by using the questionnaires system, the total sample size is 50 persons. The study showed that there is large percentage of the familiar with the concept of value engineering, compared with the lack of knowledge, also the study showed that there is a large percentage of the companies don’t use the value engineering as a system to manage the Company. The study also explained the reasons which led to not use value engineering in companies like they are not familiar with the value engineering or the belief that the value engineering system is not effective and other reasons. The study showed that there is a lack of knowledge about the value engineering, however the study attempted to clarify the ways that facilitate knowledge of value engineering, one of these methods are making value engineering is taught in universities or work, make specialized centers concerned with value engineering study and make seminars concerned about value engineering.
