Abstract:
In this study, thirty patients of low backache were investigated by
conventional x-ray and then scanned by MRI (L/S MRI) to evaluate;
compare and identy the suitable selection of investigations demonstrate
low backache.
The data was collected from Alshab Hospital, Elingaz Diagnostic
Centre and the Military Hospital. Then the data was analyzed and
discussed .The results show that 18 cases with disc herniation on MRI and
10 cases from them show narrowing of disc space on plain x-ray .While
some cases of (metastases, scoliosis & ankylosis spondylosis) were show
v
on plain radiograph and MRI .Another two cases show that fractures are
more clearly shown on the plain radiograph than on MRI.And four cases
diagnosed normal on both MRI & plain radiograph.
Finally the researcher concluded that imaging studies(MRI & plain
radiograph) are helpful in cases of low backache but they aren't the only
factor to determine low backache etiology, for that proper history&and
clinical examination are very necessary to determine which type of
imaging is needed, and it will also allow the technologist to focus the effort
of the examination at the proper disc levels. Finally it is found that plain
x-ray still has a role in the detection of low backache. While MRI study
provides more detailed informations about low backache.
