Abstract:
The objective of this study is to survey the protocol for vascular
system technique in MRI centers in Khartoum State.
The study has been done in two MRI Centres in Khartoum State. They
are:
1- Khartoum MRI Centre (Doaa centre). The magnetic power is 1
Tesla.
2- Khartoum Advanced Diagnostic Centre (KADC). The magnetic
power is 1.5 Tesla.
The study has been done during the period from 1/5/2005 up to
30/8/2005.
During this period of time there were 40 patients refered to these
centres for vascular system examinations (only for cerebral vessels). Then
comparison between these two centers in the protocols which are used to
obtain the vascular system images, the image quality and diagnosis of
disease. By using the questionnaire and analysis the data statistically the
following results are obtained.
There is differences in the protocols which are applied in the two
centers, and in their magnetic powers. These differences lead to the
following.
1- In Khartoum Advanced Diagnostic Centre (KADC) on excellent
image quality is obtained due to the higher magnetic power which is
1.5 Tesla.
2- In Khartoum MRI Centre (Doaa Centre) less image quality is
obtained due to the lower magnetic power of the machine which is 1
Tesla.
There is direct proportionality between the image quality and the
magnetic power. If the magnetic power increased, the quality of the image
increases and vise verse.
There are different protocols used in the two centers for MR
vascular system examination.
- In “KADC” two dimension time-of-flight (2 DTOF) and two dimension
phase contrast (2D phase contrast) are used.
- In Doaa Centre, three dimension time-of-flight is used.
Also, there are differences between the parameters, which are applied in
the studies done in the two centers, such as time of repetition (TR), time
of echo (TE), slice thickness and the scan time.
