Abstract:
This thesis integrates mobile agent technology in a distributed database system. The advantages formed by the combination of mobile agent technology and distributed database management systems (DBMS) are manifold: DBMSs offer a wide range of services, like recovery, transaction handling, efficient data processing, concurrency, security, etc.. Mobile agents bring in their ability of migration between different hosts and therefore move the code to the data instead of data to the code. An agent system, which is build upon DBMS services, is more reliable, more secure, much easier to handle and makes the run-time environment faster. This integration leads the problem solver directly to the problem which results in cost and time benefits.
This thesis shows that it is possible and profitable to establish an agency system inside a database especially agents with a high database access (i.e. retrieval functionality) or agents which are handling multimedia data. A second goal for the thesis to extend and to improve the database's functionality...
We show the proposed architectural model for the system and its components. Each part of the system will have specific roles in the model. These parts are going to exchange the services among themselves to achieve their tasks. Our new mobile agent system will be called MDBMAS (Multimedia Database Mobile Agents System) (MDBMAS).
