Abstract:
This study attempts to shed the light on the semantic mapping strategy for improving EFL students’ reading comprehension from teacher’s perspective. The researcher chooses a descriptive analytical method to analyze the data. Data has been processed statistically.
The population of the study consists of secondary schools students and teachers of third year, secondary schools. The samples of the study were thirty teachers who responded to a questionnaire and thirty students who sat to a test included semantic mapping in Khartoum State - Umbadda locality. It was noticed that semantic mapping improved the students’ reading comprehension. It was also found that semantic mapping comprehension passages facilitate the understanding of the new lexical items .In the lights of the findings the researcher recommends that the texts of reading comprehension should be organized according to semantic mapping in order to facilitate students’ understanding. Teachers should encourage their students to read through semantic mapping to improve reading process.
