Abstract:
This study investigates the problems of teaching pronunciation in ESL/EFL classrooms. The study took place in Sudan . The sample of the study was taken from Sudan University of science & Technology, college of education, Forth Year students of English language in 2008.
The research has questions and hypotheses that the study tries to answer. Here are some of the questions:
Do teachers teach pronunciation?
Was there enough time for teachers to teach this skill?
Were teachers qualified enough to teach this skill?
The research has collected valuable information from different sources for the sake of the study. The research has used the tool of questionnaire and the test to collect the information.
The study has reach to the following results:
-Some teachers teach the pronunciation skills
-The time was not enough for teaching this skill
At the end of the researcher has proposed number of recommendations some of these them:
The universities should qualify its teaching staff and also considering the options of hiring native speakers so that to improve the quality of teaching.
