Abstract:
The new-emerging Web Services concept was designed to meet the requirements of
business-to-business (B2B) application interaction. Web Services are based on a set of open, platform independent standards to reach a high level of acceptance.
This master's thesis primarily examines the Web Services concept and its enabling technologies and standards. It describes the possibilities for development of new Web
Services and for exposing existing applications as services. A case study demonstrates all tasks related to Web Services development, publication, and invocation at runtime. In addition, this work provides a discussion of both the benefits of this approach and the problems that may occur. Finally, an assessment about the importance of Web Services today and in future is provided.
