Abstract:
This is descriptive cross sectional hospital study was carried out in radiation and
isotope center Khartoum (RICK )from April to June 2012, To measure the complete
blood count (CBC) in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia. Sixty patients of both
gender were informed about the study expected out come and agreement of
participation was obtained. In additive forty healthy people were selected as a
control group. A structured questionnaire was used to collect information about patient
age, sex, tribe, patient history of disease. Three ml of venous blood was collected in
EDTA anti coagulant container from all patients and controls .Automated
hematological analyzer (Sysmex KXN-21 ) was used to measure Complete Blood
Count . Differential leukocyte count was estimate manually. Statistical package for
social science (SPSS) computer program was used for data analysis.
The results at hemoglobin level (mean 10.2±1.8 g\dl ) , hematocrit (mean
31.3±6.8 %) and RBC`s count (mean3.5+0. ×91012 \L) of patients significant decrease
with (p. value ٠ .00) when campered with control while Total white blood cell
count(maen 110.8±8. 4×109 \L ) and Platelets count (mean 543±44. ×8109 \L) were
significantly increased (p.value 0.00 and 0.02 respectively) .
The differential leukocyte count of patient group show significant increase in
the mean of neutrophil , esionphil, basophil, stab, metamylocyte, mylocyte,
promylocyte, myloblast and nucleated red blood cell compared to that of control . But
lymphocyte(11.9 ±10.6) show significantly decreased while monocyet (5 .1±4.0)
insignificantly increased . The study show that the differential leukocyte count of Ph
+ve CML patients was insignificantly increased in basophile ( mean 4.9±3.7), but
monocyet (mean11.3 ±10.6) was insignificantly decreased when campered with of
Ph -ve CML patients.
