Abstract:
This study is conducted under the title: Evaluation of the Writing Performance of Second-Year English Students in Kordufan Universities.
The aim of the study is to evaluate the writing performance of second-year English students in Universities of Kordufan, West kordufan and Dalanj.
The researcher tries to find out how can Kordufan university students produce well organised piece of writing with appropriate language, good sentence and paragraph construction, suitable use of punctuation marks, correct spelling and clear handwriting.
This research consists of five chapters: chapter one is the theoretical framework, chapter two contains the literature review and related studies, chapter three is about the research methods, chapter four includes the data analysis, discussion and research findings and chapter five handles the results, recommendations and suggestions for further studies,
The researcher used the descriptive analytical approach because it is suitable for such studies.
An interview, a test and a ready-made material were used as tools for data collection. Then statistical analysis such as percentages and mean values were utilised to analyze the data collected to obtain an accurate results.
The researcher reached a conclusion that:
Students were to some extent good in the use of appropriate language, spelling and handwriting,
Students were weak in sentence and paragraph construction and the use of punctuation marks.
Students’ weak writing performance is due to a number of reasons such as:
Students’ weak writing performance in the basic and secondary levels.
Students were not interested in practising the skill of writing.
In the light of the results mentioned above the researcher recommends the following:
- There should be qualified teachers in the field of writing.
- Comprehensive studies in the field of writing should be carried out.
