Abstract:
Objective: The objective of this study is to assess the resistive index of uterine artery on Color Doppler in infertile Pakistani women.
The study depends on practical scanning through which the data was collected in a data sheet. The study was conducted from 20th Feb.2006 to 31st Dec. 2006.
Method: One hundred patients were scanned for Color Doppler assessment of resistive index ( RI) of uterine artery in relation to infertility in two different centers,
1. Afro-Asian Institute of Medical Sciences (AAIMS) , Lahore, Pakistan.
2. Gilani Ultrasound Centre, Lahore, Pakistan.
Result: Total number of patients were 100.
Age distribution of these patients was as 20 – 25 yrs age group were 40,
26-30 yrs were 38, 31-35 were 12 and 36 yrs or more were 10.
70 patients had primary infertility and 30 patients had secondary infertility.
65 patients had regular menstrual cycles and 35 patients had irregular menstrual cycles.
70 patients were normal having no associated pelvic pathology, 18 patients had bilateral polycystic ovaries, 5 patients had multiple fibroid uterus, 4 patients had ovarian cysts and 3 patients had pelvic inflammatory disease.
The RI of uterine artery was found to be as follows.
In patients with regular menstrual cycle and no associated pelvic pathology mean RI of uterine artery was 0.83 (Range 0.79 – 1.0) in the proliferative phase.
In patients with irregular menstrual cycle and no associated pelvic pathology mean RI of uterine artery was 0.84 ( Range 0.80 – 0.93 ).
In patients with bilateral polycystic ovaries mean RI of uterine artery was 0.97
( Range 0.79 – 1.0 )
In patients with multiple fibroid uterus mean RI of uterine artery was 0.71 (Range 0.64 – 0.81).
In patients with ovarian cyst mean RI of uterine artery was 0.92
(Range 0.85 – 1.0).
In patients with pelvic inflammatory disease mean RI of uterine artery was 0.95 (Range 0.82 – 1.0).
