Abstract:
This study aims at investigating the importance of learning English for military purposes: A Case Study of Sudanese Armed Forces Officers at Khartoum State. The population of this study are officers from all branches of Sudanese Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Forces).
The researcher adopted the descriptive analytical method to analyze the collected data. The tools which the researcher uses to collect such data are questionnaire and interviews.
All the hypotheses of the study were confirmed to be true. Moreover, the researcher came out with some findings such as: the Sudanese armed forces officers are interested and have positive attitudes towards learning English for military purposes, the Ministry of Defence has a strong believe that the Sudanese armed forces officers should be encouraged to learn English for military purposes, and there are some areas of difficulty that might face the Sudanese armed forces officers when they attempting to use English language, …etc.
According to the above mentioned findings, the researcher recommended important recommendations such as: establishing specialized institution for the Sudanese Armed Forces to teach general English language and English for military purposes in particular, inserting English language as a subject in syllabi of the military basic and advance training courses for the Sudanese Armed forces officers and for the non commission officers as well, and the Armed Forces should cooperate with some of the Sudanese universities tohold English language courses and exchange experiences in the field of English language teaching, …etc.
