Abstract:
Taxonomic Study on Woody Plants in Soba Area,
Khartoum State, Sudan.
The study was conducted in Soba area, Khartoum State. The main objectives of the study are to document the woody plants of the study Area, to contribute in updating the flora of Sudan and to document the medicinal and other uses of woody plants. The material examined included freshly collected herbarium specimens .Methods used are collection in duplicate using plant pressers, dissection, identification, confirmation of identification. Botanic names and synonyms have been revised and updated. Brief descriptions of the collected species have been included. Medicinal and other uses have been given. In the present study (50) species belonging to 18 families, (17 Dicotyledons and 1 Monocotyledons) were identified and documented. 79.2% of the studied species were found to have medicinal uses. Also the present study showed variations in leaves and fruits dimensions of the species Balanities aegyptiaca.
It is recommended to conserve the plants species of the study area so as to reduce the encroachment of desertification and preserve the plant species of economic and environmental importance.
