Abstract:
This study was performed in South Kordofan State in Abou jubaiha locality. The study area is considered as one of more important areas have natural hashab stands in the state.
The objectives of the present study are: to highlight some social era- activistics of the people in the study area, to investigate the socio-economic values provided by Acacia senegal (hashab tree) to the local people in the study area, also to assess awareness about the multiple benefits of hashab trees so as to introduce hashab tree cultivation in all agricultural development programs.
Data was collected through interviewed unstructured questionnaire in June 2007. Target groups were selected randomly and (spss) was used for data analysis.
Results show that:
There is a strong social connection between the society members in the study area. The main source of income is Agriculture and gum arabic production. There is alack of technical knowledge on how to use (sonki) for hashab tapping. There is a need to promote the idea of gum arabic production associations according to its objectives and also to activate Decree that call for 10% of the total area of rainfed agricultural scheme to be planted with trees (hashab tree).
The study recommends that:
It is important to encourage the Gum Arabic Company (G.A.C) and Banks to finance the gum producers during all gum production stages and the relationship between the (G.A.C) and gum producers should be strengthened.
The infrastructure and services in production area have to be improved.
Encourage the research on other tree species that have socio-economic values in the study area, to reduce the pressure that can face hashab tree in the future, according to the socio-economic changes.
