Abstract:
Oral expression is one of the important language skills, which should be improved through teaching the foreign languages. And as we noticed French Language students at Sudanese universities face an oral expression problem and usually their mother tongue affect their oral expression.
This study is to highlight an important tool which is used in teaching French Language, that tool is to explain words with their versus of the same language and is called meta language.
This tool aims to help students to improve their oral expression skill.
We used statistic analytical method aiming at accounting the type of explanation that used by lecturer and student inside lecture-room and to evaluate the impact of explanation in improving the oral expression of the students.
As a result of analytic analysis we found there are five methods to explain twenty four words and probably there is more than one method to explain and express one word.
Instead of using other methods like referring to mother tongue to improve oral expression skill, we recommend, therefore, to adopt the vocabulary explanation in the same language as one of the most important tools in teaching process.
