SELTI Diploma programme for secondary school English language
teachers and is it sufficient for the training of suitably qualified English
language Teachers? The research is divided into five chapters:

It provides a statement of the problem, which is insufficient
training of the secondary schools English language teachers.

Sudan , at the same time it provides some useful practices of classroom
management and the evaluation of the teacher’s performance . Some
points of view of the teachers’ training consternation with special
reference to the TEFL Diploma at (SELTI) are included.
Three main types of instruments as means of data collection
were used. These were Evaluation of SELTI courses, Professional Action
observation sheet and Standard Lesson observation sheet.
The evaluation of SELTI courses and the result thereof showed
that SELTI courses connected the English language teachers’ requirement
and the Diploma is therefore deemed an effective Diploma. The analysis
result of the professional action observation sheet illustrated that teachers
who have been awarded the SELTI Diploma behave adequately as
professionals and the analysis result of the standard lesson observation
schedule showed that teachers who have been awarded the SELTI
Diploma conduct a standard lesson adequately.
The main recommendations are:
a) Future teacher should be selected from graduates who already have
the first degrees and who are willing and desirous to take up
education as their future profession.
b) People who want to become teachers should have a one-year
training course in education and methodology (SELTI Diploma).
