Abstract:
Objective: The objective of this study to assess Role of Transvaginal Ultrasound in Diagnosis of Adnexal Masses in Pakistani Women.
This study depends on practical scanning through which data was collected in a data sheet. The study was conducted from 20th Feb 2006 to 31st December 2006.
Method: One hundred patients were scanned for adnexal masses assessment in relation to pelvic pain, irregular periods, infertility in two different centers.
1) Afro-Asian Institute of Medical Sciences( AAIMS), Lahore- Pakistan.
2) Gilani Ultrasound center, Lahore- Pakistan.
Result: Total number of patients were 100. Age distribution of these patient was as < 20 years age group were 10 , 20-30 years were 45, 31-40 years were 22 and 41-50 years were 15 and > 50 years were 8.
Among 100 patients 85 were married and 25 were unmarried.
Among 100 patients 55 were active 28 were pre menopausal, 17 were post menopausal.
In patients presented with pelvic pain, irregular cycle, infertility, adnexal mass among 100 patients were as follow.
Simple ovarian cysts were 41
Poly cystic ovaries were 28
Haemorragic cysts were 15
Cyst adenoma were 7
Endometrial cyst were 3
Corpus lutum cyst were 4
Thceca luteal cyst were 2
Conclusion: Transvaginal ultrasound can determine the distribution of adnexal masses in different ages.
Ovarian cystic and solid lesions can be detected and diagnosed by transvaginal ultrasound and it can be differentiated between simple ovarian cyst, complex ovarian cyst, Polycystic ovaries, Any ovarian tumor.
