Abstract:
This study discusses new and most accurate and reliable method for quantification of amniotic fluid in pregnancy called Mean Amniotic Fluid Index (MAFI).
The study was conducted on 1000 pregnant ladies in their mid – second trimester, (19weeks to 28 weeks ± 6 days). Their age was in between 15 to 40 years old.
The study was done at the outpatient clinics of the Afro-Asian Institute of Medical Sciences (AAIMS), Lahore, Pakistan during the period from Feb. 2006 by Jan. 2007 using various ultrasound machines with 3.5 MHz transducers.
As a result of the study, the dominant age group was between 20 and 25 years old. The study proofed by tangible data such as tables & graphs, that MAFI is more accurate than AFI & SDP. For example, in the age group 19weeks to 19weeks+6days, AFI was 9.1 to 19.9, whereas MAFI was 8.2 at the 10th percentile, 10 at the 50th percentile and 14.9 at the 90th percentile.
