Abstract:
This analytical study was conducted at the Department of Medical
Microbiology, Sudan University of Science and Technology. During the
period from April to September, 2012.The aim of the project was to
detect antifungal activity of Citrullus colocynthis fruits and seeds extract
against clinical dermatophytes isolates as well as standard fungi.
The fruits and seeds were extracted using standard method and then their
effect on dermatophytes was detected by using the cup diffusion method
and controlled with standard strains, the used concentration was 10%.
This study revealed that the Citrullus colocynthis fruits and seeds
extracts produced prominent in vitro antifungal activity against all used
fungal species, and the antifungal activity of fruits extract was more
stronger than antifungal activity of seeds extract. And in addition these
results showed the possibility of using this plant extracts in treatment of
diseases caused by these pathogens, but further studies are required to
detect a suitable concentration and dose, and screen other parts of this
plant.
