Abstract:
This study aims to evaluate ways of teaching English for communicative purposes to Sudanese learners at Secondary school level. The study accentuated and evaluated how English can be taught from the pedagogic perspective. The study is composed of four chapters. Chapter one is an introductory chapter which illustrates the theoretical framework of the study and methods used by researcher to gather the data of the study. Chapter two shows the review of literature. Chapter three shows the data analysis. Chapter four shows the findings and recommendations. Evaluative and analytical approach were used in this research. A student questionnaire was conducted and it contains three parts: speaking as a major need for learners, methods of teaching and learning process used at secondary school level. The study has reached the conclusion that there is a mismatch between the methods of teaching used at secondary school level and the communicative level of secondary school students. However, the study has made recommendations to use appropriate teaching methods that help students at secondary level to be proficient communicators. The study has also made recommendations to use cooperative learning at secondary school level.
