This research is on the effectiveness of the use of second language communication strategies by Sudanese undergraduate..
This study aims to investigate the importance of using communication strategies in solving communication problems.
The researcher adopted a descriptive and analytical method of
investigation. Data has been calculated through a number of statistical
procedures.
30 teachers and 54 students participated in this study. Three instruments were used for data collections: Questionnaire, classroom observations, and oral test.
The results of this study are:
- The use of CS by the undergraduates thus can be seen as the learners’ attempts by different ways to solve language problems, especially in communication..
- There are common strategies used by L2 learners of English.
- The learners were of low English proficiency and were not smooth in their oral delivery
- Most of the Sudanese students have problems in speaking skill.
- Shyness and fear of making mistake are behind students' reluctance to participate in oral interaction in the classroom.
- A University lectures of English language do not concentrate on teaching communication..
The study reached a conclusion that students find difficulties to communicate orally with one another.
