Abstract:
This is a cross sectional study with prospective data. This
study was conducted in Elobied town in North Kordofan State,
during December 2008 to March 2009 to evaluate the relation
between hyperthyroidism and plasma calcium levels. Seventy
nine subjects were included in the study. Of them forty nine
patients were diagnosed as hyperthyroidism, while the other
thirty was apparently healthy subjects, and considered as control
group. Only seventeen males were included beside sixty two
females. Concentration of T3, T4 and TSH were determined by
method enzyme linked immune sorbet assay (ELISA) and
standardized chemical methods used for calcium estimation. The
ages of the study subjects were in range between (20 – 80) and
hyperthyroidism increase in age ranged (30 - 40), and mild
increase of serum calcium in age ranged (40 - 50).
The Study results showed statistically no significant relation
between hyperthyroidism and the level of serum calcium.
The conclusion is that calcium level is not influenced by
hyperthyroidism.
