Abstract:
This study aims at investigating the impact of continuous assessment in
students‘ writing skill/s. The study adopted the descriptive and analytical
method. The population of the study was drawn from English language
teachers and students of some secondary schools in Khartoum State. The
sample of the study consisted of (120) teachers and (30) students. A
questionnaire and test were used as tools for the data collection. The data were
analyzed by SPSS program. The results from questionnaire have shown that
implementing continuous assessment has positive effects in improving
students writing skill. Using and implementing of continuous assessment can
help Sudanese secondary school teachers to facilitate assessing their students
properly to improve their performance in English writing skill. The Sudanese
secondary schools teachers have negative attitudes towards the implementation
of continuous assessment. The study recommended that teachers have to train
their students to be familiar with continuous assessment techniques and
Methods. Teachers also have to apply continuous assessment methods in
teaching English for secondary school/s students as much as possible to
improve their performance in English language writing skill. The study is
concluded with the following suggestions, investigating Teachers‟ Attitudes
towards applying continuous assessment and reading skill; investigating the
impact of continuous assessment in developing speaking skill.
