Abstract:
This was cross sectional descriptive study carried out in ultra sound department of military hospital and Omdurman emergency hospital in Khartoum state in period from December 2016 to April 2017 aimed to evaluate the causes of hematuria using ultrasonography.
There were 101 patient scanned using real time scanner mindray Dp10 with 3.5 MHz convex array transducer. All patient had age ranged from 10 to 70 years and had hematuria, any patient less than 10 years or without hematuria was excluded from this study.
The data was collected using special data collecting sheet then analyzed using statistical package for the social science.
The study found that the most common age group ranged between 20-40 years (34.7%) and the gross hematuria was more than microscopic hematuria (77.2%).
The study concluded the most common cause of hematuria were inflammations of urinary system (21.8%), stones (17.8%), bladder mass (9.9%) and enlarged prostate (5.9%).
The study recommended that further studies should be done in same aspect with increased sample and advice to have ultrasound department in any primary health center as that it be mandatory in renal center
