Abstract:
This hospital based analytical retrospective case control study conducted at Ibn Siena Hospital and Sudan University of Science and Technology-College of Medical laboratory Science during the period from November 2016 to 2019. The study aimed to detect Survivin in bladder tumors among Sudanese patients using immunohistochemical methods.
Forty paraffin blocks were collected from patients previously diagnosed as bladder tumors [30 diagnosed as malignant bladder tumors(transitional cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma) 10 as benign bladder tumors], from each block one section was cut (3µm) using rotary microtome, then stained by immunohistochemically method The data obtained was analyzed using SPSS program version 20,mean,frequency and chi square test were calculated.
The age of patients range between 13 to 85 with mean age of (51.18 ± 19.0(
The study revealed that most of patients were more than 60 years representing 22(55%)
And the remaining 18(45%) were less than 60 years . 23 (57%) of patients were males and 17 (42.5%) were females.
Survivin was detect in 18 samples, from the positive results 2 (20%) were benign bladder tumors, while 16 (53.3%) were malignant bladder tumors. The differences of Survivin expression in bladder tumors was statistically insignificant (P = 0.069).
On the basis of these results the study concludes that there is no relation between Survivin expression and histopathology diagnosis of bladder tumors.
