Abstract:
This study attempts to find out the effectiveness of English Language
programmes offered in Sudanese Colleges of Education to prepare English
Language teachers . The main question of the study is : ” Do colleges of education
in Sudan offer effective English Language programmes at the undergraduate level
to prepare English Language teachers ?”
This leads to the following subquestions:
1. Are the training programmes offered in the Sudanese Colleges of Education
effective on producing trained English Language teachers?
2. Are the English Language syllabuses taught at the undergraduate level
effective enough to produce able English Language teachers?
3. Are the teaching methods and approaches adopted effectively on producing
trained English Language teachers?
4. What are the academic and professional courses offered in the Sudanese
Colleges of Education?
To answer these questions, the researcher used descriptive analytical method.
The tools used to collect data were:
a. Questionnaires.
b. Interviews .
The most important results obtained were:
- The English Language syllabuses were effective on training English
Languageteachers.
- The programmes of teacher’s training at colleges of Education were
effective enough to train English Language teachers.
- The teaching methods adopted were effective on training English Language
teachers.
The researcher recommends the following:
- There must be effective English Language laboratories at Colleges of
Education.
- There must be effective teaching practice on training English Language
teachers.
- There must be effective communicative skills adopted to train English
Language teachers.
