Abstract:
This study aims to assess the problems of reading
skill among the pupils in basic level .
In this study , the researcher
adopted the
descriptive analytical method .
The community was teachers and pupils of basic
school.
The sample of the study consists of (30) teachers
from Khartoum Buhari locality basic school , and
the second sample was ( 60) pupils from El Horia
school basic level for girls (eighth class )
The researcher used questionnaire
and reading
comprehension test as tools for date collection .
The researcher got the following results:
•
pupils in basic level don’t know principles of the
reading skill.
•
English teachers need enough courses
to
improve their methods in teaching reading.
•
The majority of pupils are not able to understand
the meaning of new words ,so they are not able
to give the correct answer.

Teachers of English language find difficulties in
teaching reading comprehension .
•
Teachers of English language give less attention
to the techniques and strategies of reading skill
in
the
process
of
teaching
reading
comprehension.
At the end of the study the researcher presented a
number of recommendations :
•
Introducing
materials
must
depend
on
experienced teachers.
•
Teachers at different levels must have special
techniques
so
as
to
improve
the
English
language and reading skill .
•
The English teachers should be given training
courses on the methods of teaching reading
comprehension .
•
Pupils should practice their reading at different
levels by reading more.(Extensive reading)
•
The
experienced
teachers
should
knowledge to show what should
use
their
be done
develop the reading skill.
•
Setting realistic topics , which are relevant to
pupils life.(intensive or extensive reading)
