Verb and Noun in English Language and Arabic : Acontrastive Study in Form and Function

Abstract

vi ABSTRACT This study trie d to investigate the role of form and function of the verb and noun in English language performance and to what extent this term can be applied to Arabic language. The researcher applied the descriptive method in carrying out this study . The sample of the study consists of ( 64 ) teachers of E nglish as a second langua ge who have been selected as accessible population from different state universities. The researcher designed and applied the questionnaire which consisted of ( 35 ) statements. The study represented the contents of the research as following: Chapter one: introduction; context of the study, the statement of the problem, the questions of the study, hypotheses of the study, the objectives of the study, the significance of the study, the scope of the study and methodology of the study. In chapter two, the res earcher tackled the review of literature in English and Arabic linguistics, and conducted a contrastive study about the verb and the noun in English and Arabic concerning form and function. In chapter three, the researcher tackled the methodology of the st udy .
