Abstract: This was prospective and analytic study aimed to detect the frequency of sickle cell trait among the relatives of patients who referring to El gadarif hospital in El gadarif state . The study was conducted in the period between October 2008 and February 2009. Hundred samples were collected into EDTA blood containers from relatives of patients of sickle anemia . All samples were investigated for CBC by use of blood analyzer mysic18 , sickling test and Hb electrophoresis to detect type of Hb . Data were analyzed by use of statistical package program (SPSS) . The results were showed that79% of samples were (AS) , and the remaining were (AA). The highest percentage of sickle cell trait was found in El hawsa tribe with frequency of (33% ) ,followed by Falata (29%), Barno (11%), Foor (10 %) , Messrria (6%) and the lowest percentage was found in Begereia tribe with frequency of( 3%). Most of sickle cell trait were found in October area with frequency of followed by Kajara ( 37%), and Darawish with frequency of (11%), Moasasat (8%) ,Mosa (5%),Metar , Salamet albeh and Abaker J (4% ) and the lowest percentage was found in Ambasa , Shashol and Doka ( 2%) . Also the study showed that mean of Hb was 11.2 g/dl , RBCs count was 4.5×10 9/L ,WBCs count was 6.6×109/L , PLts count was 306×109/L , PCV 35% , MCV 84 fl , MCH 26 pg and MCHC 32 % The study showed that 73% of samples were normocytic normochromic and remaining were microcytic hypochromic .
