Abstract: This is an analytical case-control study was conducted at Al- Ahfad Family Center during the period from January to April 2010. The aim of this study was assessment of the haemostatic parameters (platelet, PT and APTT) in women under administration of combined oral contraceptive who visited Al- Ahfad Family center. Forty eight women under pills were enrolled in after being consented the study and agreed for participation. The study population was divided into two groups according to age, first group women above age 30 years and the second lower 30 years, and tow groups according to duration first group between 3-12 months and second group more than 12months intake. Five ml of venous blood was bleed 2.5ml in EDTA containers and 2.5 ml in tri sodium citrate containers and investigated for the platelets count, PT, APTT tests. Fully automated hematological analyzer Sysmex was used for platelets count and automated coagulometer Biobas for PT, APTT. Women under pills had a mean value of Platelet of 309 .000/cmm. This value was significant higher than that of control (270.000 /cmm) and with a P value of 0.039. PT (12.6 second) shorter than control (15.0) with P value 0.297 and APTT (26.4second) was found within the normal range and was not different from that of control. This study concluded that women under combined oral contraceptives were at risk of thrombophilia due to increased platelets counts.
