Abstract: This study aims at examining the role of discourse Metafunctions in improving EFL learners' abilities at Sudan University of Science and Technology. The study adopts analytical and evaluation design or method. The study has focused on evaluation of learners, as purposive sample consists of thirty Sudanese students are selected from male and female students who registered for M.A Program at Sudan University 2014/2015. All sample subjects were given a test for evaluation purposive. The study concludes to a number of main findings the most important of which are; positive half of learners' response and understand to identify ideational features in relation to text reading. The study recommends the need to practice discourse metafunctions, and the importance of the role of language in building learners' linguistic ability and text awareness. The study also recommends the intensive holding seminars, discussions in field of discourse analysis.
