Abstract:
A laboratory based descriptive and analytical study was carried out in
Gaza stripe Palestine 2004-2005. The aim of this study is to identify the
.prevelance of polymorphism at the 5' promoter region of CYP3A5 genes
The distribution and risk factors of leukemia disease among children less
than 15 years, and to assess the association between certain laboratory
results and the security and prognosis of disease . Data was collected
through structured questionnaire administrated to 40 subjects parents.
Response rate was 95%. The incidence rate of Leukemia disease was
66.2% according to governorate. Clear variations were found in
incidence according to sex, age groups, governorate and socio-
demographic and economic status. The disease was prominent among
.(children less than 16 years with percentage (5%
The risk age group was children less than 15 years (95%). Males less
than 10
years lived in Gaza governorate were more likely to have
Leukemic disease than Females. Low socio-encomic status, families'
index, parents of low educational level and with low income jobs were
not associated with the disease, and its severity. Leukemia was not
associated with the CYP3A5 polymorphism and the study showed that
there are association between CYP3A5 and the count of some type of
leukocytes such as Neutrophiles and Eosinphiles and in the other hand
there is no association between CYP3A5 and other type of leukocytes
such as lymphocytes, Monocytes, Basophiles, and the study finding there
is no association between lymphocytes count but there is association
lymphoblast cells and CYP3A5 gene the study recommended the need
for conducting further studies and researches about the major risk factors
associated with Leukemia, and preterm labor in relation to Leukemia in
Gaza strip and West Bank, conducting the further studies are required to
evaluate the quality of Leukemia patients in all different health
organizations and the clients perception and satisfaction towards the
.services of this care
