Abstract:
Brassica hirta oil was analyzed by GC-MS. Identification of the constituents was accomplished by consulting the MS library (NIST) and also by matching retentions times with the database of the GC-MS library.Twenty nine components have been detected by GC-MS analysis. The oil was assessed for its antimicrobial potential via the cup plate agar diffusion bioassay. Brassica hirta oil exhibited weak anticandidal activity.
Major constituents of the oil are: 9-octadecenoic acid (Z)-,3-[(1-oxooctadacy)oxy]propyl ester (16.81%);9-octadecenoic acid,1,2,3-propanetriyl -ester(15.45)%.
