Abstract:
This case control study aimed to evaluate of Prothrombin Time, International Normalized Ratio and Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time among patients taking antipsychotic drugs in Al-Tigany Al-Mahy Mental Health Hospital in Khartoum state at the period from March to November 2019.
Two hundred subjects were included and selected randomly, they were grouped into case group (n=100) who were psychiatric patients and the apparently healthy group were control group (n=100). Both, age and sex are matched. Venous blood sample (1.8ml) was collected in 3.2% tri sodium citrate container. Then, plasma was separated by centrifugation for 15 minutes, evaluation of coagulation profile ( PT, INR and APTT) by using coagulometer device.
The data was analyzed using SPSS program (Version 20) using independent T-test and one way ANOVA for testing significance and frequencies, mean and SD, p.value significant ≤ 0.05.
The Mean and SD of PT in male and female of the case group was 17.7 ± .5 and 19.3 ± .4 respectively and in control group was 13.7 ±1.2 in male and 13.4 ± 1.4 in female with significant statistical correlation p.value 0.00.
The Mean and SD of PTT in male and female of case group was 35.6 ±1.4 and 37.2 ± 1.1 respectively and in control group was 31.6±2.4 in male and 31.4±2.6 in female with significant statistical correlation p. value 0.00
The Mean and SD of INR in male and female of case group was 1.4± 0.04 and 1.5±0.04 respectively and in control group was 1.2 ± 1.3 in male and 1.3 ± 1.4 in female respectively with no statistical correlation p. value 0.13
There was statistical correlation between gender and PT, APTT and INR (P. value 0.00).
