Abstract: The study was done in the period of 12-months (i.e; from July 2007 to June 2008.) at Afro Asian Institute of Medical Sciences, Lahore, Pakistan; To determine The Sonographic Comparison of IMT in different segments of common carotid artery in Pakistani population , following the international scanning guideline and protocols. My objective of this study was to determine the IMT in carotids in different age groups in Pakistani population, starting from age groups <35 yrs to =/ >65yrs.I divided the age groups into five groups, in both males and females. I took a sample of 100 patients and measured their IMT in different segment of both right and left CCA in both males and females. The results of this study as following: The Comparison of IMT in different segments of CCA in Pakistani population is according to the international standards. Mean average of RCCA (IMT) in males:- Proximal part 0.62 mm Middle part 0.62 mm. Distal part 0.62 mm. Mean average of RCCA (IMT) in females Proximal part 0.58mm Middle Part 0.62 mm Distal Part 0.62 mm Mean average of LCCA (IMT) in males Proximal Part 0.62 mm. Middle Part 0.67 mm Distal Part 0.65 mm Mean average of LCCA (IMT) in females Proximal Part 0.60 mm. Middle Part 0.66 mm Distal Part 0.66 mm The means of the RCCA (IMT) in males are greater than those of RCCA (IMT) in females. The means of the LCCA (IMT) in males are greater than those of LCCA (IMT) in females. In males the means of LCCA (IMT) are greater than the means of the RCCA (IMT). In females the means of LCCA (IMT) are greater than the means of the RCCA (IMT).
