Abstract: | This is a case control study, conducted during the period from March to September 2015 to assess plasma levels of total protein, albumin and urea of 60 pregnant women (15 in the first trimester, 20 in the second trimester and 25 in the third) compared to 10 health non pregnant women as control attended Al Turkey Hospital in Khartoum. Plasma levels of total protein, albumin and urea were measured using bio system spectrophotometer 310 and commercial kits from bio system company. The result of the study showed significant difference in total protein plasma levels of test groups when compared to control group P.value (0.02). plasma albumin levels is significantly decreased when compared to control P.value (0.00). plasma blood urea levels is significantly decreased when compared to control P.value (0.01). According to trimesters plasma levels of total protein, albumin and urea significant difference in the first trimester compared to third trimesters, and significant decrease in total protein and urea in first with second trimester (P.value <0.05). No significant decrease in the total protein and urea in the second trimester compared with the third trimesters respectively (P.value 0.07) (P.value 0.56) and No significant decrease of albumin in first trimester compared with second trimester (P.value 0.27). In conclusion: significantly decreased in the total protein, albumin and blood urea levels in pregnant women when compared with control groups. |
