Since the year 2006, horizontal drilling has been used to improve the production of many wells all over Sudan Heglig Fields. Currently, over 10 horizontal wells are being drilled each year. After several years of successful drilling and completion for horizontal wells on the Hehlig fields, The operator need to understand the reservoir major production drivers properties and use the knowledge to optimize drilling and completions not only for the historical wells but for the next wells to avoid missing target due interfaced formation and minimizing water coning. Thus, in terms of the oil flow rate, horizontal and vertical wells are almost equal, in the main reservoir Bentiu1 in the Heglig main field. At that, horizontal wells have a significantly lower productivity, which is associated with the lower water cut.
The oil industry today is constantly exploring ways to build bigger and more detailed reservoir models. However, Drilling office and Petrel software’s were used in this study research. Simulating the power to drill faster, more safely, increasing the flow of data and facilitating interactive cross work disciplines. Accuracy is increased by tracking and visualizesactual results against the well plan while drilling in three dimensions using the Geoframe integrated reservoir characterization project data base. The completion of horizontal wells can be done by different ways and it depends on the production constraints and the reservoir characteristics.
The Plan/Actual drilling simulation showed that theBentiu 1A upper lobe along wellbore is getting thin and the steering equipment was getting away from landing point (almost miss target). The solutions and suggested proposal was to redesign and maximize wellbore positioning in the reservoir. This research showed the possible designing methods for the horizontal well trajectory, equipments and completion.
Finally, it is recommended to re-evaluate the drilling program, redesign, and apply the Drilloffice and Petrel simulation software’s not to forget the use of new technique and developed equipment for better decision, lower risk and higher pay back. |
