Abstract

Title: Role of Future Studies in Poverty Alleviation (an Applied Study on the First Five Years Plan 2007- 2011 of the 25 Years National Strategy of the Sudan) The research discussed the future science and futuristic studies and their role in reducing the rate of poverty through studying and analyzing this phenomenon. The study is taking the national strategy of the twenty five years, the five years plan (

- ) as a sample to present the importance of the future studies in the scientific long- term strategic planning. This study is important because it reaches in a modem scientific field; that is recently termed as the future science and futuristic studies. In this context, this study can be considered the first study that researches in the future science and futuristic studies as a science in Sudan as general and in University of Sciences and Technology, and all other institutions of high education; Universities and Institutes in particular. The study aims at focusing the light on this recently established discipline that constitutes a scientific perspective in investigating future in its multi dimensional aspects. In this view, it deals with such issues like sustainable development and poverty reduction and so on. The hypotheses and inquiries of the study are as follows: 7 . Is the future science and futuristic studies, considered a science? . What are the aims, purposes and methods of the future science and futuristic studies? . Is it possible to benefit from these studies future in releasing the rate of poverty and, or overcome it? Hypothetically, its abroad spectrum approach that can be beneficial in developmental and planning studies. The study depends on historical method to show the development stages of the future science and futuristic studies, and the descriptive method; that concerns with explanatory design, study of references, documents and reports to define and identify the subject of this study its domain and concept. The study concludes to so many results and recommendations: . There isn't any research study about the future science and futuristic studies, and there isn't any interest about the future science and futuristic studies as a science in all national institutions of high education. . Importance of the future science and futuristic studies in predicting different prospects for the future, and awareness with the future issue, and the big renewing ability to benefit from the future studies in all fields, particularly, in developmental and planning studies. . . Importance of spreading the culture of the future studies in the Sudanese institutions of high education (Universities and Institutes). Besides that, the subject of the future studies must be a part of the materials that should be taught to all scientific branches in particular. 8 Therefore, these future studies cover wide range in anther scientific field without exception including engineering studies. The University of Sudan for Sciences and Technology would be the establisher and the pioneer in the future science; the futurology. . .importance of constructing a mechanism specialized in collecting information- knowledge base- concerning with the poverty phenomenon and it's growing; there must also be national studies and scientific futuristic researches to solve the methodological and technical problems that belong to poverty. . Fighting against poverty must be from the top priorities of the national policies and a part of the comprehensive economical and social development. In some, we must look for scientific and practical ways to reduce the rate of poverty and how to overcome it in Sudan.
