dc.description.abstract This study is conducted to show the effect of listening on developing the student's spelling skill. The study also tries to see whether SPINE series provides enough activities to develop listening. The research is based on the analytical descriptive method. Tests and a questionnaire are used for collecting data. Thirty secondary school students are given two spelling tests. Comparing the marks by the students in the two tests, the results show that the students were able to score significantly higher in test (2) when they were subjected to listening. The teachers' responses to the questionnaire items have also supported the positive impact of listening on spelling skill .The amount of listening activities in SPINE series turned to be inadequate as to improve learner's spelling skill. The study also revealed that the absence of audio- visual aids has impeded efforts to develop both listening skill and spelling skills. Based on the research findings the researcher has recommended that teachers should use communicative activities to encourage meaningful listening beside the students should be trained on practicing listening strategies. Teachers should also involve the students in using English for purposeful listening. Finally the Students should be encouraged to practice listening and speaking outside the classrooms. en_US
