Contrast Media Protocol in Computed Tomography

Abstract

The main objective of this study to asses and evaluate the standard protocol (dose, indication and image enhancement) for administration of contrast media to the patient in CT department. And perform to evaluate the basic safety measures taken in this department (precaution). The study has been carried out during the period form February to June in 2007 at the Alengaz Medical Center, Modern Medical Center, Ribat University Hospital, Elnelein Medical Center and Khartoum Advance Medical Diagnostic Center. The protocol in the CT department in Khartoum city has been no same standard protocol to administration of contrastmedia the dose estimation different from center to another and in some cases less than standard dose. In cases of the tumors the image enhancement is achievable at different degree of enhancement according to type of lesion. The main indication for using contrast media was different types of tumors. The precaution in the department is not enough it is care about the drugs and can not care about other aspect of precaution specially laboratory and measurement of vital sign before and after the administration of contrast media. The amount and timing of the oral CM taken not enough to fill all GIT.
