dc.description.abstract This study aims at investigating Linguistic Barriers that Restrict Communicative Abilities of the Sudanese Secondary Schools Students. The descriptive analytic method was adopted in conducting the study. To test and determine the Linguistic Barriers that Restrict Communicative Abilities and oral skills in English as a foreign language (EFL) students. Questionnaire and test were chosen as main tools for data collection. The questionnaire was distributed to (50) experienced teachers at different schools. A test was given to (150) first year secondary students at schools of Bahri Locality. The SPSS program (statistical package for social sciences) was used for data analysis. The statistical analysis for the results of the questionnaire and test showed that the students are encountered by linguistic barriers in English as a foreign language that hinder their communicative abilities. The researcher recommended that, EFL learners have to focus on learning vocabulary on oral communication in the classes, to encourage the learners to feel free and speak fluently. Teachers should use more oral communication skills. Teachers and students shouldn't use Arabic language during the English classes. Teachers of English language should be given sufficient training on how to teach oral communication moreover, students should be given more time to practice English and their teachers should encourage them in oral communication. Finally, teachers should show their students the linguistic barriers of communicative abilities in order to avoid them while practicing speaking English. The study contained some recommendations and concluded by some suggestions for further studies en_US
