dc.description.abstract Prostate volume measurement is frequently used to diagnose the abnormalities of the prostate. Abnormal enlargement of the prostate may be due to inflammation, benign prostate hypertrophy (BPH). In a more severe case, the abnormal enlargement may indicate prostate cancer. Therefore, this study has been conducted to measure the prostatic volume among Sudanese to find the relationship between body weight, age and prostate specific antigen (PSA) and prostatic volume. The sample of the study included 71 subjects with different age, all of them scanned with ultrasound trans-abdominal. During the scan, subjects are requested to fill their urinary bladder to obtain clear prostatic gland images. The prostate volume (PV) measurement was conducted using the ellipsoid formula which calculates volume by considering the largest anteroposterior height (AP), transverse width (W), cephalocaudal length (L) and diameters. The results of the study showed that the mean prostate volume of single and married participants were 26.76 and 73.24 respectively. The study also found that the prostate volume increases linearly with subject’s age, weight and PSA and affected by marital status, the study showed the prostate volume increase more in married patient than in single one. The most frequent sonographic findings were calcifications from amylaceous bodies, periurethral cysts up to 5 mm detected in some subjects within the sample, there was no statistical significance suggesting that these findings causes an increase in prostate volume in men above 50 years of age en_US
