dc.description.abstract String theory is now a day one of the most attractive physical model that may open a new horizon to give better understanding of the physical world. The aim of this work is to use string model to explain some optical properties of some metal oxides. The research methodology is based on designing a mathematical analytical model so as to verify experimental relations between absorption coefficient, refractive index and atomic beside oxidation number. In this work Maxwells equations with complex wave number are used to relate absorption coefficient to the conductivity and refractive index. Treating electrons as strings the refractive index is shown to be inversely related to the atomic number and directly related to the oxidation number. The experimental work in which the absorption spectra of Fe, Ni, Co, Cu and Cr oxides are displayed is in agreement with this theoretical relation. Another relation is also found using ordinary second Newton law for electrons affected by electric field in a viscous medium. One finds real and imaginary electric susceptibility then the refractive index; susceptibility and conductivity are related to each other. By considering the photon as string that is emitted or absorbed due to electronic transition for hydrogen like atom, the refractive index is shown to be inversely proportional to the atomic number and directly with oxidation number .This relation conforms to the experiments done on Fe, Co, Ni, Cu and Cr oxides en_US
