Across- sectional study was conducted during the period from March to
June 2011 to evaluate the plasma levels of phosphate, urate and creatinine
before and after dialysis among Sudanese patients with chronic renal
failure in Khartoum state selected from Dr.salma center for renal
diseases.
Sixty patients on haemodialysis were selected for this study. Two blood
samples were collected from each patient before and after dialysis in
heparin containers, plasma phosphate, urate and creatinine were measured
using a spectrophotometer.
The means of the plasma levels of phosphate, urate and creatinine after
dialysis were significantly reduced (p=0.00) for each.
The study showed no correlation between the plasma levels of phosphate
and creatinine pre dialysis and there was a weak positive correlation
between the plasma level of phosphate pre dialysis and the duration of
chronic renal failure.
Also the study showed a weak positive correlation between the plasma
levels of urate and creatinine pre dialysis, and there was no correlation
between the plasma levels of urate pre dialysis and the duration of
chronic renal failure.
In the present study the majority of patients on haemodialysis have
hypertension (40%), diabetes mellitus (3.3%), diabetes and hypertension
(6.7%) ,gout(20%), renal stone (13.3% ), and (16.7%) have other
etiology. From the result of this study, it's concluded that haemodialysis
.significantly reduced the level of phosphate, urate and creatinine |
