Accuracy of CT-KUB in detecting urinary system calculi post lithotripsy

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the accuracy of computed tomography kidney ureter bladder (CT-KUB) in detection of urinary system stones after lithotripsy. This study was expanded from October 2012 to January 2013 in Alamal hospital. Random samples of 50 patients, 35 males(70%) and 15 females (30%), their ages range from 5 to 80 years, were chosen for CT-KUB after lithotripsy. CT-KUB were obtained for all the subject and the stones length, width, computed tomography (CT) number, and we were measured by using computer. Scanning was done using Toshiba (64slices) machine with slice thickness 5mm , collimation of 0.5*64 mm, 120 kvp, and mAs 150 mill ampere. The result showed, the male were more affect than female and there were linear relationship between the stone length, width, area, CT number with age. CT number can characterize the stone type and CT-KUB has accuracy 100%, the sensitivity 100%, and the specificity equal zero. CT-KUB has great value in detection of calculus as it is accurate without magnification
