dc.description.abstract The aim of this study is to determine serum lipid profile (total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL-C, and LDL-C) among Sudanese smokers In this cross-sectional study, the blood was collected from 60 smokers (as test group) their mean of age (24.24±.947) years and mean of smoking was (1.87±6.3) years and 40 apparently healthy non smokers (as a control group), age was matching. The serum levels of lipid profile were measured by using spectrometry and commercial kits from Biosystem Company. There were significant increase in mean of serum total cholesterol, LDL-C P value (P=0.011, P=0.000) respectively, while the mean of serum triglyceride was insignificant (P=0.363) also there was significant decrease in mean of serum HDL-C (P=0,000). Study showed strong positive correlation between both serum total cholesterol , serum triglyceride and number of cigarette per day(r=0.380,r=0.422) respectively , negative correlation between the serum HDL-C, serum LDL-C and number of cigarette per day , also study showed strong positive correlation between both the serum total cholesterol, serum triglyceride and duration of smoking per year. Study concluded that there are significant increased levels of in serum total cholesterol and LDL-C, insignificant increase of serum triglyceride, and significant decrease of serum HDL-C among Sudanese cigarette smokers. en_US
