Abstract:
This study was conducted to survey the seed–borne fungi of sesame
collected from Elmuglad, Gedarif, Um Rawaba and Elrahad. Using the dry
seed inspection, standard Blotter Method and Agar plate method.
The dry seed inspection method revealed some impurities and
discolored and damaged seeds. In the Blotter Method 11 seed-bone fungi
were isolated from non-disinfected seed samples and 8 seed – borne fungi
were isolated from disinfected seed samples. Also in the Agar plate Method
7 seed–borne fungi were encountered in sesame seeds.
The two incubation method (Blotter and Agar plate) showed that the
seed–borne fungi were encountered in higher percentage in the Blotter
Method than in Agar Method.
All the seed-borne fungi isolated sesame seeds in this investigation
were identified as follows:
Macrophomina phaseolina, Aspergillus niger, A. flavus, Alternaria
sesami, Fusarium sp, Curvularia lunata, Alternaria alternate, Rhizobus sp.,
Ulocladium sp., Curvularia sp., Drechslera rostrata.
